ABSTRACT

In this narrative, I step into the shoes of someone who has lived with gynaecomastia — male breasts. Using the imaginary character of Aarav, I reflect on the themes of the stigma associated with body image, the courage to face it, and the role human relationships can play in fostering self-acceptance.

ABSTRACT

Gynaecomastia is a kind of benign and hyperplastic disease of male breast tissue. Based on the literature at home and abroad, different classification or standard of gynaecomastia has been expounded respectively from the pathogenesis, age, pathology, degree and iconography, and several common classification has been compared. Summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of these classification standards, evidence can be provided for clinical diagnosis and preoperative assessment of gynaecomastia, improvement direction can be offered for domestic classification criteria.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Breast or mammary gland is under the influence of hormones resulting in physiological changes throughout reproductive life and thereafter various structures give rise to different lesions. FNAC can be used as an OPD procedure in diagnosis of breast lesions without the need to hospitalize the patient. AIM: To study the spectrum of breast lesions. Methods: Breast Lump is the commonest presenting symptom in various types of Breast lesions ranging from inflammation to carcinoma. Result : The most common lesion encountered in our study on FNAC was fibroadenoma (47.07%) followed by benign proliferative mammary lesion (Commonly fibrocystic disease) 29.47%. Tuberculous mastitis was 11%. Malignancy was 11.19%. Conclusion: Benign breast lesions form the bulk in this study and fibroadenoma is the most common lesion. FNAC is useful and reliable in early diagnosis of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions avoiding the need of biopsy. It has an important role in rural and semi-urban areas with fewer facilities and for the poor.

ABSTRACT

@#Adrenal oncocytomas are rare adrenal neoplasms which are usually large and nonfunctioning. Most of them are benign. We report a rare case of adrenal oncocytoma presenting with bilateral gynaecomastia and hypogonadism in 67-year- old male from Myanmar who had elevated estradiol levels. He successfully underwent an adrenalectomy and the histologic diagnosis was an oncocytoma. The immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was positive for neuron specific enolase (NSE), vimentin and synaptophysin. Feminizing adrenal oncocytoma has not been reported in literature.

ABSTRACT

Background: Gynaecomastia is defined as an enlargement of the mammary gland in men. Objective: To evaluate Aesthetic Results of Subdermal Mastectomy by means of Inferior Periareolar Incision. Materials and Methods: Descriptive, cross sectional and prospective study. We evaluate aesthetic results of Subdermal Mastectomy by means of Inferior Periareolar Incision using Analog visual Scale applied by an another Surgeon) and a Questionnaire (Auto Evaluation). Variables: Age, Clinical Symptoms, Evolution time, Complications and Aesthetic Results. Descriptive and Inferencial Statistic was used (Wilcoxon test). Results: Twelve patients, median age 27.5 (18-58) year-old. Nine (75%) patients presented pain, 4 (33.3%) bilateral gynaecomastia, 4 (33.3%) left and 4 (33.3%) right sided gynaecomastia. According to Simon Classification, 3 (25%) patients grade I; 2 (16.6%) IIa; 2 (16.6%) IIb and 5 (41.6%) III. No patient presented concomitant disease, 12 (100%) had normal secondary sexual characteristics. Six (50%) had hyperesthesia. The Aesthetic Evaluation made by a distinct Surgeon was as it follows, 10 (83.3%) had a ≤ 6 punctuation and 2 (16.6%) had ≥ seven (0 - 10, Analogue Visual Scale). Ranks for Aesthetic Aspect Evaluation made by the patients, before and after surgery were 2.54 (average after surgery) and 0.00 (average before surgery), Z -1.857, p=0.0063 (p<0.05, Wilcoxon). Conclusion: Subdermal Mastectomy should be in lower case by Inferior Periareolar Incision, it does not present severe complications however aesthetic results are undesirable.

ABSTRACT

Gynaecomastia is a common pathological condition of breast seen in men. This is defined as benign enlargement of breast tissue in males. It was first described by Palus Aegineta (AD 635-690). Herewith we are presenting cases of 14 year old twins attending the surgical O.P.D with bilateral enlarged breasts and pain. A diagnosis of pubertal gynaecomastia was made with no evidence of malignancy by histopathological examinations and mammography. One boy with 5 x 6 cm of right breast and 2 x3 cm of left breast was treated by subcutaneous mastectomy. Other boy had only enlargement of nipple and areola. He was reassured and sent home without surgical intervention. A rare case of idiopathic gynaecomastia in pubertal twins is described here.

ABSTRACT

@#A 13-year-old Indian boy presented with progressive non-painful enlargement of bilateral breasts for 2 years. (Figure1) There was no history of any drug intake that could lead to gynaecomastia with no significant past medical history. His BMI was 28.5 kg/m2, no icterus, no stigmata of liver disease, acanthosis was present, sexual maturity rating P1 A1, and stretched penile length was 5 cm, testicular volume 3 ml bilaterally of normal consistency; with a bone age of 13 years and a disc diameter of 6 cm bilaterally. Investigations revealed normal liver function tests, fasting testosterone levels of 67 ng/dl, LH 1.17 U/L, FSH 3.68 U/L, FBS 90 mg %, and PPBS 107 mg%. Considering the overall clinical picture, a diagnosis of Peripubertal Gynaecomastia was made. Obesity could have been a contributing factor to the development of this condition in this patient. He denied having taken any estrogenic compounds but environmental exposure cannot be ruled out as we did not assay for the levels of these environmental endocrine disruptors and estrogenic agents. However, increased pigmentation of nipples and areola is a common feature of gynaecomastia due to exogenous synthetic estrogen exposure which was absent in this case.
